Enterprise-wide Competency Standardization
Results in Increased Flexibility
Many times a nurse will take on a new position and the competency requirements for their particular role are either vaguely stated or not clarified at all. With Decision Critical powering this aspect of the human resources mandate, customers are able to outline those competencies very specifically. One hospital reported that they were better able to design individualized training plans for each of their employees based on the competency criteria that was entered into their system. They found that their nurses were more successful at meeting the basic competency requirements of their roles, because they could see from their personalized learning plans what was expected of them right from the outset.
The organization benefited from being able to document enterprise-wide standardization of competency in response to legal, compliance and regulatory requirements. If required to, at any time, they could effectively say: “These are the minimum standards against which everyone in our organization is trained.” Beyond that, however, they enjoyed the flexibility that comes from being able to develop organization-specific requirements. For example, they were able to specify the competency requirements specific to a Medical-Surgical Nurse, as compared with an Emergency Department Nurse. With the click of a mouse the organization was able to run compliance reports by individual, department or the entire enterprise.
